Bill: Free Trip to Hospital in Case of Life-and-Death

Member of Knesset Yisrael Eichler (United Torah Judaism) submitted a bill to the Knesset, Thursday, that would provide funding for trips to and from the hospital in a number of instances that could be considered life and death by a physician, even if the patient used a taxi and was not admitted. Under current law, reimbursement is made only if a patient is brought to hospital in an ambulance and is admitted.

Rabbi Eichler submitted the bill in the previous Knesset, only to run up against Finance Ministry opposition because of the cost, in spite of the Health Ministry's readiness to restrict reimbursement to respiratory distress, fear of heart attack or fear of an incident involving the brain, accompanied by refusal of the patient to be taken to the hospital for fear of being sent home. The response of the two ministries to the current legislation is expected later.
