Finance Minister Yair Lapid reiterated his Yesh Atid party's position on the ongoing negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday. He said the goal is to reach an agreement that will allow Israel to separate from the Palestinian Authority "while maintaining strict security interests of Israel." He added, "people ask me 'do we trust the Palestinians?' And I tell them, 'certainly not.' We can count only on ourselves and the army for our security. Time and time again the Palestinians have proved they do not deserve our trust," he stated.
He added that working out a compromise with the PA was preferable to annexing areas with Arab population centers. He also said he seeks to avoid making Israel an isolated country for rejecting compromises set forth by the United States and the international community.
