Steinitz Cites Lapid for Needless Budget Panic

Former Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz welcomed, Tuesday, the Treasury's announcement, Tuesday, of a reduced budget deficit for 2013. He said, " As I announced in January 2013, the deficit actually fell to the area of 3%, mainly due to the deficit reduction plan formulated during the previous government."

Steinitz, who now holds the strategic affairs and intelligence portfolios in the government, continued by attacking his successor, Ya'ir Lapid, saying, "The irresponsible excesses of Finance Minister Lapid, who complained about a difficult inheritance and an alarming deficit of close to 5 % - with no professional basis, caused unnecessary panic and substantial damage to the Israeli economy, including a lowering of the local credit rating."
