Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon has expressed skepticism about the American-mediated talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) in private conversations with Israelis and Americans, according to a Tuesday-morning report by Yediot Ahronot. Among the things Ya'alon said were, "The American security plan presented to us is not worth the paper it's written on, " explaining, "It has no security and it has no peace. Only our continued presence in Judea and Samaria and on the River Jordan will guarantee that Ben-Gurion Airport and Netanya won't become targets for missiles from every direction."
Ya'alon said, "As of now, we are the only side that has given something - the release of murderers, while the Palestinians have not given anything." According to the report, he is concerned that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas will try to squeeze out another prisoner release and building freeze in Judea and Samaria via the Americans and Ya'alon does not intend to play along with what he calls Palestinian-American manipulation, concluding, "We have given enough and not received anything," and Israel's American friends have been told, "Enough is enough."
