Cabinet OKs Funding for Golan Agricultural Properties

The cabinet voted, Sunday, to approve a NIS 375-million ($107 million) program to prepare 750 properties in the Golan Heights for agricultural use over the next five years. The properties, covering 30,000 dunam (7,500 acres) are located next to existing communities. Some of the preparation involves clearing minefields.

Agriculture Minister Ya'ir Shamir said, "Golan residents rely significantly on agriculture as a source of income and the aim of this decision is to expand employment opportunities for them and create anchors to strengthen the settlement enterprise in the Golan Heights."
