Museums Seek to Return Holocaust-Stolen Art to Heirs

Representatives Israeli museums and the corporation for locating and returning assets of people who died in the Holocaust decided, Thursday, to start looking for the heirs of people who had owned works that were stolen by the Nazis and were now in the collections of the museums.

The Israel Museum in Jerusalem said it started such an effort years ago. The museum said, in a statement, "Since the Washington document was signed in 1998, the Israel Museum has maintained extensive operations on the restoration of works of art that were looted by the Nazis during World War II, and is now considered one of the leading museums in the world on this issue."
