On Wednesday, the Knesset rejected the preliminary reading of a bill that would restrict the future annexation of Judea and Samaria. The bill was submitted by Member of Knesset Yehiel Bar (Labor) and would have restricted any unilateral annexation of Judea or Samaria outside of the framework of a two-state solution.
Unlike Jerusalem's Old City and the Golan Heights, Judea and Samaria were never officially annexed following the Six Day War of 1967. While some MKs advocate for its annexation, others, like MK Bar, seeks to negotiate partial or complete withdrawals for the future creation of an independent State of Palestine.
Forty-four MKs voted against the bill, twenty-five voted for the bill and two abstained.
