Two former United States ambassadors to Israel have reversed their opposition to releasing Jonathan Pollard from his life sentence for giving Israel classified US information, according to a Tuesday report by the Walla! Website. Pollard is in his 29th year behind bars since being arrested.
Ambassador Sam Lewis said, simply that 28 years was enough. Ambassador Thomas Pickering said he would support freeing Pollard if it would significantly help Secretary of State John Kerry's efforts to work out a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. He said Pollard did bad and dangerous things, and he did not accept the Israeli protest of Pollard's imprisonment.
