Interior Minister Gid'on Sa'ar said, Monday morning, that striking and demonstrating illegal infiltrators "are seeking collective recognition as refugees in order to plant roots in Israel." Interviewed by Israel Defense Forces Radio, he said the state was taking an individual look at each request for asylum.
Sa'ar said, "We have taken a series of measures recently and it is starting to show results. We are seeing a very significant increase in the rate of infiltrators from the country. This makes them understand that the government is serious, and we are serious." He added, "The vast majority of asylum seekers are migrant workers and Israel is not their home."
