Shofar of Baba Sali Up for Auction

As the Jewish world marked the 30th anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira, it was announced that the shofar (animal horn sounded during the High Holy Day season) blown by the Moroccan-born kabbalist known as the Baba Sali would be auctioned off at the end of January, among other valuable and antique items. Thousands of people have visited his gravesite in recent days to mark the anniversary.

The Kedem auction house has put the opening price on the shofar at $15,000. It is expected to bring between $20,000 and $30,000.
