Rabbi David Stav the chairman of the Tzohar movement came out against the proposed health care subsidies of unnecessary abortions. In an interview with Arutz Sheva news on Wednesday he stated that unless there was a life threatening medical condition, abortions were not permitted by Jewish law. He questioned "whether the state should encourage it and subsidize it... the state wants to allocate resources for the benefit of a personal decision. I know they are not allowed halachically."
He added that the issue of abortion is one of the most sensitive issues in the world.
