Chairman of the Jewish Home, Minister of Economy, Religious Affairs, Jerusalem and the Diaspora Naftali Bennett visited the Kollel Eretz Hemdah students training to become Judges in Rabbinical courts and announced that he would change the reality in which candidates for Rabbinical Judge positions are disqualified just because they wear a knitted kippa.
"It is important to strengthen the Torah in Israel, but the Torah is to be integrated in life and not detached from it," Bennett said. He added, "The fact that a generation of the finest students cannot be judges just because they served in the military and believe in Israel as the beginning of our redemption is an awful distortion. I see as my task to empower you beyond mere words, but by deeds. Rabbinical Judge appointments are coming up in the near future and we have a number of candidates. We are working hard to bring about this change."
