Australia Confident Winter Games Athletes Safe in Sochi

The Age reports Australia has expressed confidence that Russian authorities can keep athletes and sports fans safe in the wake of two terrorist bombings that killed at least 30 people ahead of the Winter Olympics.

Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop said on Tuesday Australian officials were working closely with Russian counterparts and Olympic officials to ensure the safety of Australia's team, adds The Age.

But the athletes face restrictions on their movements. Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates announced they are banned from training in or visiting parts of Russia outside Sochi, the city where the games are to be held in just under six weeks, notes The Age.
