Pollard's Handler Urges Pressure for His Release

In an about face from his previous public statements, and public silence on the matter, Rafael Eitan called for public pressure to urge the United States government to release Jonathan Pollard. Eitan was Pollard's Israeli contact as he illegally sent Israel classified documents dealing with Arab chemical and biological weapons capabilities. Pollard has expressed remorse for his deeds and stated he believed he was helping protect Israel. The elderly Eitan, a long time security agent, told Arutz Sheva news on Wednesday, "today should talk about it publicly and openly say what we want directly to the heads of state."

Pollard was sentenced to life in prison. Recent allegations that the US has been eavesdropping on Israel has lead to an outpouring of calls for Pollards release.
