1 Year for Violating House Arrest to Attack Police

The Jerusalem Magistrates Court sentenced 19-year-old Muhamad Dawiyat of the southern Jerusalem Arab neighborhood of Sur Bahr, Monday, to a year in prison in a plea bargain on charges stemming from an April 8th incident in which he threw firecrackers at a police vehicle. According to the indictment, he was on house arrest at the time. He will be on probation for six months, upon his release.

Convicted of violating house arrest in addition to aggravated assault on a police officer and aggravated attempt to bodily harm, Dawayat faced a sentence of two-and-a-half years behind bars, as recommended by prosecutors.
