Minimal Force in Extreme Cases in Psychiatric Hospitals

The Knesset Committee on Labor, Welfare and Health held a hearing, Tuesday, on complaints about violence and neglect against inmates in psychiatric institutions, most of which are not brought to court without a satisfactory explanation.

Doctor Gadi Lubin, who heads the mental health services in the Health Ministry, told the committee that, "the Ministry's and hospitals' policy is zero tolerance for violence. Life in hospitals may require minimal physical force to prevent a disaster, in severe cases of difficult patients."
