Peres Calls for Computer Revolution in Schools

President Shim'on Peres opened the "Future of Education" conference of the "Password for Every  Child" initiative, Tuesday morning, by calling on the education minister and the education system to make a computer revolution in Israel. He told the gathering, "Recently I was informed of a figure that amazed me - to implement the "Password for Every Child " program in a thousand schools in the periphery, we need to invest a total of 90 million shekels. It can't be that we don't distribute computers to all the schools in the periphery."

Peres stressed that people must not close their eyes to the shameful education data from recent international testing, saying "Israel cannot be first in high-tech and last place in education."
