MK Maklev: No to 'Tourism Medicine'

MK Uri Maklev (United Torah Judaism) spoke out on Monday evening against the phenomenon of “tourism medicine”, where foreign tourists are able to come to Israel and receive private medical treatment at the expense of Israelis.

“It is inconceivable that there are three levels of medicine in Israel: public health, private health and tourism medicine, since their very existence creates structural discrimination between citizens and foreigners,” said Maklev during a discussion of the Knesset’s Welfare and Health Committee. “Under the Israeli Health Act, every person is eligible for public health services, but the current situation is untenable due to long lines and anyone who has the financial ability and wants better service acquires private medical health services, but even in this situation he is not getting the same service as a person who comes from abroad and buys a private health policy.”
