2 Israelis Rescued from Mountain in New Zealand

Two Israelis in their twenties were rescued, Monday, after one was moderately injured during a hike in New Zealand's Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, according to Radio New Zealand. Aoraki is one of New Zealand's highest mountains.

Police said the two set off on Sunday to walk from the Hooker Valley to Tasman Valley. The younger man slipped and fell late Sunday afternoon and on Monday morning the pair decided they were unable to continue. Police said they were contacted in a round-about way, with the men texting a friend, who sent a text to another friend, who got in touch with the Department of Conservation, whose staff then rang the police. The Aoraki Alpine rescue team flew them out at about 11 a.m. local time.
