Ministers to Consider Day Off for Local Elections

On Sunday, the Ministerial Committee on Legislation will consider a bill initiated by Interior Minister Gid'on Sa'ar which seeks to allow workers time off to vote in local elections, similar to the situation for the Knesset elections. The goal is to increase voter turnout.

Sa'ar said, "I believe broad democratic citizen participation is important and valuable. I also believe that local elections are no less important than the Knesset elections, so it's appropriate to make things easier for Israeli citizens to exercise their democratic right for them [the local elections -ed.] too."
