White House Opposed to New Iran Sanctions Bill

White House Spokesman Jay Carney said, Thursday, that President Barack Obama would veto legislation introduced in the Senate, earlier in the day, which would impose new sanctions against Iran's nuclear development program but give the administration a year to negotiate before they took effect, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Carney explained, “Passing new sanctions legislation now will undermine our efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution.” He said if the Tehran government doesn't meet its part of the interim agreement, new sanctions could be imposed quickly.
