Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Museum will mark it's 60th anniversary with a special conference on December 19th. Speaking at the conference will be distinguished experts in the field of history and research from around the world including former Chief Rabbi and Holocaust survivor Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, author Prof. Deborah Lipstadt and others.
The museum also has a study center where people can research their own family's background and trace lost relatives.
Before Yad Vashem was established in 1953, a small museum on Mount Zion served as Israel's official memorial. Today, the Chamber of the Holocaust museum still stands in between the Diaspora Yeshiva and the King David's Tomb prayer area in Jerusalem.
