Chairman Aryeh Der'i of the Shas party reacted to the government's report on poverty, Tuesday, by saying, "A government that failed to prepare for a blizzard will surely not be able to handle the raging storm of poverty here. In this case, the government won't [be able to] explain that this was an historic storm and there was no way to prepare for it." Der'i called warnings by members of the party "a voice in the wilderness."
Member of Knesset Itzik Shmuli (Labor) said the government must set social goals for the eradication of poverty and reduction of gaps in inequality. Knesset member Penina Tamanu-Shata (Yesh Atid) said the state must continue to assist groups highlighted in the report and use educational and economic tools to help break the cycle of poverty
