20 Arrests in Tel Aviv Water and Sewer Corruption Probe

More than 20 people were detained for questioning, Tuesday morning, following a month's long investigation into suspicions of bribery at the Mei Avivim water and sewer company of the Tel Aviv-Yafo (Jaffa) municipality. Dozens of homes and offices of the suspects were searched and depending on the results of the interrogations, the central suspects will face hearings in the Rishon Letzion Magistrates Court for the extension of their remand.

Senior officials and other employees are suspected of being connected to contractors who won bids, receiving bribes for steering work in the direction of the contractors and approving payment requests that were inflated through fictitious reports. Those reports included repairs that were allegedly greater than what was needed and performed, based on fictitious inflated invoices allegedly submitted by the contractors.
