Workers of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, assisted by special units of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), opened the road to the southeastern Gush Etzion communities of Ma'aleh Amos, Meitzad and Pnei Kedem, Sunday afternoon. Generator are on their way to communities which have been cut off from electricity since the beginning of last week's storm.
Acting council chairman Moshe Seville said the operation was vital because the communities have hundreds of families and children and, at times, babies and toddlers who have been left without basic foods. He said the council has been in touch with the Israel Electric Company, the IDF, the Israel Police and the Mekorot water company, and the employees of the council have been working non-stop since Thursday to reconnect the electricity and the water.
