Change Sought in Law Stating Only Females Can Be Raped

Member of Knesset Yariv Levin (Likud-Beytenu) at the request of the National Council for the Child is filing a petition to change laws that define the crime of rape as being perpetrated against females, according to a report in Haaretz news. A similar bill was abandoned in 2010. The group says that males as well as females are assaulted, but current laws can only prosecute crimes against males as molestation. ELI: The Israel Association for Child Protection stated that they see an almost equal number of males seeking help for rape as females, according to Haaretz. The petition seeks gender neutral language in the penal code.
