President Shimon Peres, hosted an official state welcome reception for Guatemalan President Otto Fernandez Perez Molina, Monday morning. Ahead of a diplomatic working meeting during on the major issues facing the world today and ways to strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries, Peres expressed hope that there will be a breakthrough in negotiations with the Palestinian Authority for the benefit of the two sides. Regarding the Iranian nuclear threat, he said Israel was waiting to see if the words of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani would become reality or remain a collection of empty words. He cited Guatemala for its advances in innovation and science and its ability to overcome its political difficulties.
President Molina expressed hope that Israel would overcome its difficulties the way his country had, adding that his country affixed great importance to the security of Israel and its people. Calling it an honor to be his country's first president to visit Israel, he welcomed the opportunity for the transfer of knowledge to overcome poverty and achieve progress in education, science and technology.
