Chairman Shaul Mofaz of the Kadima party eulogized General (reserves) Danny Matt, Friday, as "among those who designed the ethical identity of the Israel Defense Forces on the battlefield." The former chief of staff and defense minister called Matt "a brave fighter, an admired commander and an exemplary model of leadership."
Recalling Matt's efforts in leading paratroopers across the Suez Canal during the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Mofaz said, "On a personal level , Danny fulfilled a dream and changed my life. In the period I served as commander in the paratroop brigade. I was a commander of a squad in Battalion 890. Danny appreciated my work and recommended to send me an officers' course. I thank him for everything."
