IDF Closes Case in Death of Shomron PA Protester

The Israel Defense Forces announced, Thursday, that military prosecutors have closed the investigation into the death of Mustafa Tamimi, who was hit in the head with a gas grenade during a violent demonstration in the Shomron (Samarian) Palestinian Authority-assigned village of Nabi Saleh in December 2011. The soldier who launched the grenade said it was launched in response to the massive throwing of rocks at the IDF vehicle in which his unit was traveling and the nearby road and he saw nobody in the line of fire at that moment.

The Military Adjutant General's office said, in a statment, "The materials collected showed that the shooting was done in accordance with the relevant rules and guidelines, and in so doing there was no offense . Consequently, the case was closed without having to take legal action against anyone."
