Police Approve E1 Menorah Lighting Following Ban

Police have approved a candle lighting ceremony in Mevaseret Adumim, also known as E1, for Wednesday night the final night of Chanukah. On Monday, residents from Maale Adumim arranged a giant menorah on the barren ground made out of tealight candles in the shape of a menorah. After 30 minutes, police put out the candles.

Mevaseret Adumim is the barren tract of land located across the highway from Maale Adumim near Hebrew University. Although owned by the Maale Adumim municipality, the area is being contested by Palestinian Authority residents who claim it as their own.
