China Launches Unmanned Lunar Probe


China, tonight (Sunday), has launched its unmanned lunar probe and rover, Chang'e 3, according to a report by the Xinhua Chinese news agency.

The probe is scheduled to land in mid-December on the moon's surface. Upon landing, the probe will release a rover equipped with four cameras and two legs. which will be able to dig up soil samples. It will make the first time in history that a probe will be able to place a telescope on the moon's surface which will be able to view the Earth.

The unmanned Chinese probe is the third probe to ever make a soft landing on the moon, preceded only by the US and the Soviet Union (Russia).
