Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni (Hatnua) staunchly supports the National Student Union's decision to go visit Mahmoud Abbas at the Muqata in Rammalah.
Livni, who is Israel's representative in the political negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, spoke before the students today (Thursday) at the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yafo.
"I have been hearing heated discussions running throughout the National Student Union about assembling a delegation to visit Abbas," Livni told the students, "and I think it wonderful that you are taking responsibility for your own lives."
"Go and meet with him. Listen to what he has to say, and present your arguments. Ask the tough questions, without the intervention of politicians. And then decide for yourselves whether or not there is a real partner (for peace). Telling you to not get involved is the same as telling you to place a blindfold over your eyes, a gag over your mouths, and to cover your ears."
