A Druze woman who was divorced against her will has won damages in amount of NIS 25,000. The judge said, though, that she had taken into consideration that the woman "had not fought for her marriage."
In a recent decision, Supreme Court Justice for Family Matters, Marina Levy, reduced the amount of damages demaned in a suit brought by a 30-yr.-old Druze woman against her 32-yr.-old ex-husband who performed a compulsory divorce without her agreement, from NIS 300,000 to NIS 25,000.
Irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason for the divorce, however it appeared the 'differences' were against a background of the woman having been in a texting relationship with a man at all hours of the night. The plaintiff, however, has said she had wanted a peaceful household, not a divorce.
