Knesset Rejects 'Anti-Persecution Law' of Haredim


The Knesset today (Wednesday) rejected a proposal by MK Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) for a law against the discrimination and harrassment of the hareidi sector of the population which is based on their religious tenets.

Litzman stated before the Knesset plenum, "During the negotiations for establishing a coalition we were explicitly told that we weren't wanted because we were religious and had beards, as if that is not discrimination."

"If you persist in discriminating against the orthodox and continue to attempt the destruction of the yeshivas (plural of 'yeshiva' - a Torah institution of learning), then we will cut you off and view you as racists."
