Kerry: No Problems Destroying Syria's Chemical Weapons

US Secretary of State John Kerry clarified last night (Tuesday) that efforts to eliminate the Syrian chemical weapons stockpile were still 'on target', even though no country has yet agreed to receive the stores of toxic chemicals within its own borders.

“We’re on schedule” to remove chemical weapons from Syrian soil by the end of the year, Kerry said. He dismissed reports that the program was running into trouble “We are not without other alternatives,” he said, adding: “We are actively pursuing two other alternatives.” However, Kerry offered no further details on the matter.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons plans to destroy Syria’s estimated 1,300-ton arsenal outside the country, which is supposed to be completed by the middle of 2014.
