Pharmacist 'Prescription Law' to be Discussed Today

The Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee is scheduled today (Wednesday) to discuss the approval of regulations that would allow pharmacists to issue or renew prescriptions. The purpose of the regulation ostensibly is to enable experienced pharmacists to facilitate patient care by prescribing medications, or as is the case for the chronically ill, to renew medications that have already been prescribed by a patient's physcian.

The Israel Medical Association has announced its opposition to the measure, warning that the measures would "change the face of acceptable care by expropriating the physician's obligation to offer responsible care to his patient and palming it off on to those who have not been trained as doctors."
