Syrian Minister Blames Rebels for Spreading Polio Virus

Syrian Social-Affairs Minister Kindah Al-Shammat accused opponents of the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad, Sunday, of spreading the polio virus, according to the Associated PressThe minister told the news agency that Pakistani jihadists were to blame, without giving additional details.

Last week the World Health Organization reported ten cases of the disease in northeastern Syria, all of them babies under the age of two. The Union of Syrian Medical Relief Organizations reported 29 suspected cases of the disease in the Deir Ez-Zor area about two weeks ago, according to the Syrian Expatriate Organization.
