Member of Knesset Yoni Chetboun (Bayit Yehid) blasted the Yesh Atid party's bill for civil marriage. He stated it "imposes a heavy question mark regarding our alliance with Yesh Atid." According to Yesh Atid's proposed new law, couples would be able to marry outside any religious authority including same-sex couples. MK Chetboun said he views the law as a way to undermine the Rabbinate. He called it "a dangerous initiative" that could create two separate entities -- those viewed as halachically married and those who are not -- as opposed to the status quo where every couple falls under a strict rabbinical guideline and thus are universally accepted.
