Braverman: Welfare Policy for the Elderly the Worst

Chairman Avishai Braverman of the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee said, Tuesday, "The welfare policy of the state of Israel for caring for the elderly is the worst in the developed world."

Chief Executive Officer Dan Ben David of the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel told a committee hearing for Senior Citizens Day that while the income of the elderly has improved before their welfare expenses, after government participation in paying those expenses, 50 percent of seniors are left below the poverty line, a record in the Western world. He said the government expenditure for old-age pensions is among the lowest in the West.
