Or Yarok (not-for-profit traffic safety lobbyist organization dedicated to reducing road accidents in Israel through education, enforcement and improvement of infrastructure) has announced that the main reason pedestrian injuries occur is due to drivers not heeding the right-of-way laws.
In a special report the organization published today (Monday), it was shown that 60% of pedestrian injuries happen at the very place that is designated to be the safest place to cross the road - the crosswalk.
The organization's chairman, Shmuel Abuav, explained, "In many cases, speed bumps can mean the difference between life and death. The State needs to provide more speed bumps. The crosswalks are dangerous, and we need to save lives."
