MK Dov Lipman (Yesh Atid) responded to a report he received today (Monday) from the Immigration, Absorption, and Diaspora Affairs Committee on the status of immigrant children in Israel.
The report stated that although these children have a lower poverty rate and a lower rate of criminal activity. However, the report also reflected the difficulty these children have obtaining the same level of success in the educational system.
"I found the results regarding education to be very disturbing. Only 54% of immigrant children pass their matriculation exams which certainly indicates that we must do more to assist them with these exams. Even more disturbing is the statistic that 10% drop out of school in 11th grade and 84% of these do not find themselves in alternative programs. We must develop creative programs to assist the child immigrants who cannot succeed in a school setting," Lipman said.
