Two Tzfat Schools Closed as Earthquake Hazards

The Sub-Committee for Emergency Preparedness of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, headed by MK  Eli Yishai (Shas) held a hearing today in the wake of the recent spate of minor earthquake tremors that Israel has experienced over the past two weeks.

"According to a review conducted by experts in the field of earthquakes, there are about 1,500 schools throughout the country which can be defined as high-risk in the event of an earthquake," commented Dr. Avi Shapira, who heads the National Steering Committee for Earthquake Preparedness.

The two Tzfat schools in question were considered at a risk level high enough to warrant closing them down and rebuilding them.
