Supreme Court justices decided, Sunday, to appoint retired justice Yitzhak Zamir to mediate between the state and Arabs who are squatting within the boundaries of the Israel Defense Forces' Firing Range 918 in the southern Hevron Hills.
The Arabs claim they have lived on the land for generations. In accordance with an order banning their presence in 1980, the state has countered with aerial photography to counter the Arab claims. The squatters were allowed to live on a third of the land they claim. The mediation does not apply to future squatting attempts.
