Turkel Committee Member: Interested Parties Spoiled It

Former Member of Knesset Gila Finkelstein, who serves today on the Turkel Committee which approves nominations for public positions, said on Sunday that interested parties made it very difficult for the committee to approve a candidate for the position of Bank of Israel Governor.

"Interested parties spoil it for us," Finkelstein told Arutz Sheva, hours after the committee officially approved Dr. Karnit Flug as the new governor. She added that good and talented people do not want to compete for senior positions because of what happened with Professor Jacob Frenkel, who withdrew his candidacy because of allegations that he shoplifted an item in Hong Kong several years ago.

"They're tired of the vilification,” said Finkelstein.
