Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) called for the annexation of Judea and Samaria without fear of any demographic issues. He made the comments in the inaugural issue of a new magazine called Ribonot. Ariel dismissed fears that annexing the land would not only incorporate the Jewish communities as officially part of Israel but the numerous Arab communities as well. If the new Arab citizens were to be denied voting rights, it could be construed as apartheid, Ariel said, but if they would be given voting rights they could pass anti-Jewish measures and essentially take over the country. Ariel explained the fears as nonsense and urged the government to annex the areas because they are part of the greater Land of Israel regardless of any political considerations. He said annexation was the initial important step and other issues could be dealt with after the fact.
