Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem took time out from running the city and his re-election campaign to visit the country's oldest man, Rabbi Zecharia Brashi. The 113-year-old resident of the capital's Baka neighborhood has outlived three of his eight children and is grandfather to 30, great grandfather to 72 and great-great grandfather to 14. He recalled wishing Barkat well in 2008 and expressed hope to be around five years from now to wish him well again.
Thanking the rabbi for his support, the mayor said, "You're the best example that Jerusalem is an attractive city for young people. Your support is exciting. I wish you another hundred years of activity and health in Jerusalem."
