MK Aryeh Deri Claims Mayor Barkat Requested Agreement

Member of Knesset Aryeh Deri, head of the Shas party, said that several months ago Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat discussed some kind of possible endorsement. "Let’s keep things in proportion. He spoke with me about an election agreement and to work with him, not against him, but he did not offer anything I wanted," MK Deri said in an interview on Kol Berama Radio on Tuesday. MK Deri went on to promote Moshe Lion, former head of the Jerusalem Development Authority as mayor rather then Barkat. He said that although he respects Mayor Barkat, "at the end of the day we need Lion."

Mayoral and municipal elections are scheduled for October 22nd.
