Typhoon Wipha Swipes Japan; 17 Dead

In what has been called the "typhoon of a decade", Typhoon Wipha skirted up Japan's eastern coast leaving 17 dead, 50 missing, and causing 20,000 to evacuate their homes today (Wednesday).

According to Reuters, the brunt of the storm hit an offshore island, Izu Oshima.  The typhoon brushed by the destroyed Fukushima nuclear station, but no further damage was caused there.

Wipha deposited torrential rains and blew in hurricane winds on Tokyo's 30 million people at the peak of the morning rush hour.
