A policeman and policewoman were both attacked today (Tuesday) at Rachel’s Tomb by a woman who was asked to move in order to make room for additional worshipers.
Today (Tuesday), the 13th of Cheshvan (Jewish month), marks the yahrzeit (annual anniversary of a death) of Rachel Our Matriarch, which means it is a day when thousands of pilgrims and worshipers make their way to Rachel’s Tomb in order to pray at her grave.
The incident occurred when police officers in charge of security saw the women’s area becoming too overcrowded. In order to avoid mishaps due to the overcrowding, and to allow the greatest amount of worshipers possible the ability to approach, the officers asked the women standing closest to move in order to allow others to approach. Contrary to the cooperativeness of most of the women, one woman not only refused, but punched one of the officers in the face, and cut his hand.
