Eini to Discuss Layoffs with Worker C'tees, Teva Chief

Chairman Ophir Eini of the Histadrut Labor Federation is scheduled to meet, Tuesday morning, with leaders of large worker committees to discuss the announced dismissals of 800 employees from the Teva Pharmaceutical company and 240 from the Bazan oil refinery in Haifa. After that he will meet with Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Levin of Teva in an effort to seek explanations for the move, which is part dsssof a worldwide layoff of 5,000 workers.

Chairman Eliran Kozlik of the Teva workers' committee in Kfar Sava told Channel 10 Television, Tuesday morning, "It is a disgrace and a scandal that a company as large as Teva receives billions [of shekels in] benefits from the state and when a decrease in profits is expected - they resort to struggling to improve efficiency and to layoffs."                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        "
